Carat’s

Carat’s

Along with cut, colour and clarity, carat is one of the four value factors that determines the price of a diamond. How did the carat system start? The word carat comes from the seed of an African tree, called “carob”. Early gem traders used the small, uniform seeds as counterweights in their balance scales. The carat is the same gram weight in every corner of the world. Since 1907, the carat metric has been adopted and diamond weights are expressed in “carat” abbreviated “ct”. 1 carat corresponds to 0.20 grams.
